When there were two developers at Names & Faces, we could keep each other up to date by talking. By the time there were eight of us, spread across cities and time zones, a good conversation could leave six people out of the loop.
We paired on problems so another developer could see how we got to a solution. We set aside time to teach each other things. For bigger decisions we talked through the approach as a team, then split into smaller groups for the implementation details.
Two habits helped people who missed a conversation. We wrote down decisions and who owned each area, and we asked and answered questions where the whole team could read them. I wrote up all five habits for OfferZen.
